Adjectives ending in ‘ing’ or ‘ed’
¿Cuándo y por qué los usamos?
Hay una regla muy sencilla para usar los adjetivos terminando en ‘ing’ o ‘ed’ correctamente.
Por ejemplo, bored y boring.
Si tu profesor es aburrido – boring - , tú te sientes aburrido – bored -.
Adjetivos que terminan en ‘ing’ son la causa de adjetivos que terminan en ‘ed’.
- Los adjetivos en ‘ing’ se utilizan para una situación o sentimiento generado por una persona, cosa o acción.
Tom is bored because the class is boring, and the teacher is really boring.
Como veis en esta frase los dos ‘ing’ se refieren a cualquier cosa (class) o persona (teacher) como adjetivos generales, pues ambos class y teacher provocan, en este caso, la situación “aburrida”. - Los adjetivos que terminan en ‘ed’ son un sentimiento sentido por personas, sólo personas, no cosas. Esta terminación es usada para describir precisamente esa sensación o sentimiento que una persona siente por esa situación. (Tú estás aburrido “bored”- porque ellos – class y teacher – son aburridos “boring”)
